In shortEverybodyKnowsYou (written as one word, or EKY for short) is a web design and AI discoverability company from El Salvador, founded by Marcela Lemus Walsh and Nelson Inno. The name comes from what people tell you once you start showing up everywhere: "Wow, you're famous. Everybody knows you." It has no connection to Leonard Cohen's 1988 song "Everybody Knows", but we share a lot of search results with it, and we decided to take on that challenge.
How we picked the name
When Marcela and I were choosing a name for the company, we had a long list of options. Most of them described exactly what we do. They were clear, and a little boring.
Low on that list, there was one name with a lot of potential. Marcela spotted it: EverybodyKnowsYou.
Out of all the names, she thought it was the coolest one. Think about what happens when you get famous, when you really start showing up everywhere. People look at you and say:
It is a very common phrase, and you hear it in many languages. And it is exactly the feeling we want our clients to have: someone looks them up, and there they are, on Google and in AI answers, with their story told the way they want it told.
Why we also go by EKY
EverybodyKnowsYou is a long name, so it needed a short one. EverybodyKnowsYou becomes EKY. One day, we would love for people to simply talk about EKY.
The challenge: a song from 1988
Soon after we picked the name, we noticed something. In February 1988, Leonard Cohen released a song called "Everybody Knows" on his album I'm Your Man. He wrote it with Sharon Robinson. It is a classic. Concrete Blonde, Don Henley and Sigrid have all recorded their own versions. Sigrid's version alone has more than 100 million plays on YouTube Music, and Leonard Cohen's own recordings have been played more than 50 million times on Spotify.
"Everybody Knows You" is very close to "Everybody Knows". So when someone looks us up, Google often decides they must mean the song. As of October 2026, it even corrects "everybodyknowsyou" into "everybody knows you" and shows Leonard Cohen first.
That means that every single day, we compete against a song that people have loved for almost 40 years.
There is one detail that gives us hope. Being found for EverybodyKnowsYou, written as one word, is very different from being found for "everybody knows you" as three separate words. The first one is our name. The second one is a phrase that belongs to everybody.
Why we took it on anyway
We decided to take on the challenge and show that, within one year, we can start showing up more and more often. Helping people and businesses get found by Google and AI is our job. If we can do it for ourselves, right next to a classic, we can do it for you.
You can call us crazy, and that is partly true. But we are crazy excited about this challenge, and about showing up right next to a very popular song.
We also never lose hope that, one day, lots of music fans will find us because we took this on. Fans of Leonard Cohen, of The Fratellis and their song "Everybody Knows You Cried Last Night", of John Kay & Steppenwolf and their song "Everybody Knows You", and of The Divine Comedy and their song "Everybody Knows (Except You)". If that is you, welcome. We are glad you found us.
And if you are curious how we are doing, search for "everybodyknowsyou" again a few months from now.
